DEMO IS WHERE IT'S AT
We're on the lookout for demos from Toronto-based developers to showcase in five dedicated time-slots during Gamercamp. Each presenter will have fifteen minutes to show their demo, where the inspiration came from and explain its development status. We're emphasizing games rooted in strong creative ideas that either take gaming in a novel direction or show a playful wink to retro games. It's a great place to show and get feedback and we'll feature it in the Gamercamp program, and cover your admission! If you're interested, contact mark@gamercamp.ca. Details
A projector & screen (with a VGA connection) will be provided along with a barebones laptop so you should probably bring your own computer. The sound system connection will be a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. Also, we may not have a secure place to keep your computer/equipment before and after the demo, so please keep this in mind.
Demo slots remaining: FULL Demos Appearing at Gamercamp
1) Spooky Squid Games
Miguel Sternberg shows the progress on Spooky Squid's first commercial game Guerilla Gardening. It's "a unique blend of stealth, free form puzzle solving and civil disobedience based on the guerrilla gardening street art movement." Really? Awesome!
2) Drinkbox Studios
Drinkbox shows off the prototype of their newest title About a Blob, a 2D side scroller where you play as 'the Blob' an adorable and innocent alien creature who comes to Earth, eats everything in his path, grows to gargantuan proportions and ultimately consumes the planet.
3) Daniel Steger
Daniel Steger rocks out with Battle Beat, a rhythm based strategic defense game. Think desktop tower defense meets Rock Band. Use guitars or drums to control squads of units fighting back an incoming alien menace with the power of plastic instruments. You can check out the trailer here.
4) Benjamin Rivers
Benjamin Rivers presents Drunken Rampage, the interactive party game that values onlookers as much as the player. Participants pass an Atari 2600 joystick around to exact pixelated revenge on innocent, abstract bystanders. Both the game itself and its supporting collateral encourage the creation of drinking meta-games and the sharing of these unique, tangental experiences. Best played while under the influence." Sounds awesome, maybe we can set this up for the 1UP party!
5) Superbrothers
The only thing better than pixel art is animated pixel art. Craig Adams of Superbrothers shows a series of animated shorts with Atari 2600-sized pixels. You don't want to miss this. |
Gamercamp
Bring your retro caps and nostalgia pants because it's going to be a day of looking back at the games that defined our lives and an industry and how they continue to influence us today. We will be bringing together speakers and panelists from the Toronto gaming industry, and open game demo stage and a very cool exhibition curated by the Replay Arcade Museum on retro and rare games. 1UP!
Every game's gotta have an epic end and so should Gamercamp. Battle it out on a curated collection of classic (and original!) arcade cabs from the Replay Arcade Museum. Drinks will be served and play will be unlimited. Will you be the king or queen of Kong? |
